Double Vision: Looking Back At A Commercial Icon

Article Body:

While many iconic images have been created as part of successful advertising campaigns, some icons have histories as exciting as the products they endorse. For example, did you know that the Doublemint Twins first appeared as only illustrations? They debuted in print advertising for the famous gum in 1939 to communicate its double benefits: a "double wrapped" wax-coated paper seal and a "double peppermint" distillation process used to produce a sweeter, smoother taste. These illustrated twins became the brand's signature and were drawn in ever-changing matching hats for car card and poster advertisements.

It wasn't until 1960 that the first live twins appeared in television commercials. They sang a catchy theme song that encouraged gum chewers to "double their pleasure" and "double their fun." New sets of twins were cast for commercials throughout the 1970s to 1990s and most recently reintroduced in 2005, as Wrigley continued to offer fun variations on the double theme.

Now there's another kind of twins associated with the 90-plus-year-old trademark minty taste: Doublemint Twins mints. Like the namesake gum, these mints offer "double good, double fun" but with a blend of two flavors in a single mint.

New television commercials build upon the brand's heritage of the campaign and the unique jingle but with an unexpected twist as viewers are introduced to a new set of twins-two very different people that are dressed alike as twins.

Corporate Events That Do Double Duty

Granted, when you're dealing with high-powered executives, programmers or salespeople, a Friday afternoon pizza party may not be quite the ticket. Higher goals merit higher rewards - but the principle remains the same. If you're planning a corporate event weekend, then your plans should include all three arms of the success formula - recognition, reward and motivation.

Recently, a teacher whose class regularly scores top marks shared her secret for team building success with me. "It's easy," she told me. "Each week, we set a goal as a class. If we've reached the goal at the end of the week, I treat the class to pizza and a game and then we sit down and plan next week's goal."

There in a nutshell is a tried and true strategy for building and maintaining successful teamwork that any corporate event planner should take to heart. My teacher friend's Friday afternoon 'pizza party' serves a triple function - it recognizes the work achieved, rewards the team for their work, and serves as a springboard for the next goal. To be successful, a corporate event should do three things - recognize, reward and motivate.

Granted, when you're dealing with high-powered executives, programmers or salespeople, a Friday afternoon pizza party may not be quite the ticket. Higher goals merit higher rewards - but the principle remains the same. If you're planning a corporate event weekend, then your plans should include all three arms of the success formula.

This isn't as difficult to do as it may seem. Any corporate event that's meant to recognize and reward contributions to the team can serve as a springboard for planning further successful activities and include team building activities to further cement the bonds of the work group. An event that's planned as a team building weekend could easily include a recognition dinner to reward those members of the team who've made oustanding contributions.

The key to making sure that your corporate event accomplishes all of your goals is careful planning right from the start. Before you decide on the activities for your corporate event, take the time to work out your goals. Is it your aim to reward your employees? Recognize achievement? Motivate your teams? Hammer a group into a team? Once you know what it is that you want to accomplish, it's time to call in the professionals.

A corporate event planner with expertise and experience in team building activities, corporate event planning, outdoor team building and corporate hospitality events can show you a wide range of fun corporate events and activities that will serve any corporate event strategy you have in mind. Even more importantly, they'll bring their own experience to the planning table - and the execution of the event. Using a professional corporate event service means you needn't worry that someone will forget to meet the keynote speaker's plane, and your own key people aren't tying up their time running around to find matching napkins for the company reward dinner.

In the end, choosing to use a corporate event planning service is no different than any other business decision. You hand the work to those that have the best resources to accomplish the task. When it comes to fitting a corporate event to its purpose, a professional event planner can turn your company recognition dinner into a motivating, rewarding and inspiring team building event that will kick your next quarter into high gear.

Double Dymo Labels for a lot less - the new Dymo LabelWriter Twin Turbo now 52% off MSRP

The Dymo LabelWriter Twin Turbo is the 'jewel in the crown' of label printers. It has 2 separate (but joined) label printers in the one chassis, meaning that you can print to 2 different label sizes without having to change out a roll.

The DYMO brandname is synonymous with labelling solutions for small/medium/large organizations - from work-at-home-moms, up to Fortune 500 companies. Dymo label machines have been available for over 30 years and constant innovations keep leading Dymo to release more useful and solution-orientated labelling products. Just like the 'jewel in the crown' Dymo LabelWriter Twin Turbo. This little marvel is unlike any other label printer ever released by Dymo. That's because it is not just a label printer... it is in fact two label printers sharing the same body, it solves a big problem (see below) and does this at a very affordbale price.

When the Dymo LabelWriter Twin Turbo was finally released it was, as expected, an instant hit. But to understand why it has been so successful, it is important to first get a bit of an understanding of label printers in general.....

Almost every label printer that has ever been sold on the open market has only had a single printhead and the capacity to hold just a single roll of labels. This doesn't sound too odd because label printers are simple purpose-built machines for doing nothing other than 'printing labels'. You type a label, you print a label.... fast and simple. But when a user needs to print to a different label 'size' or 'shape', a problem exists. You either need to change out the roll of labels that is in the printer, or just have another printer with the other size/shape labels in it.

Hence the calling for the Dymo LabelWriter Twin Turbo !!

Dymo listened very closely to feedback from existing customers, many of whom typically had 2 label sizes that they printed constantly, and were annoyed at having to keep changing the rolls out. So the idea of having 2 rolls in the one machine seemed like the obvious solution, and it has proven to be.

Along the way, Dymo stumbled across another advantage of having the 2-roll capacity. Suppose you only had one label size that you printed on. Most would think that the Twin Turbo would not suit them, but Dymo added a feature where, in the case the first roll of labels ran out, the printer would automatically switch to the second roll of labels and continue to print..... pure genius !

The Dymo LabelWriter is normally priced at $155 from Labelcity.com, but there is a full $30 instant discount being offered, dragging the price down to $125... which takes it to 52% off MSRP. The deal is valid from April 20-30, 2006 (inclusive) and is available only from Labelcity.com
