“If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail”

Everyone thinking of starting a business needs to be prepared to move beyond conventional approaches. One of the most crucial factors in your business success is your ATTITUDE. Developing a positive attitude is your key to be able to reach your goals.

Your knowledge, your skills, your service or product quality, will not help you enough if you don’t have a positive attitude. Many people failed in their business and the major reason of their failures is due to inadequate attitude. This brings me to an old statement "Your Attitude determines your Altitude," pretty much says it all!

Before jumping into online battle, there are several things you will want to consider. What does starting a home Business involve? What should you expect? And, are you suited to this lifestyle? As with any employment decision, the proper time and research should be spent to make sure you're on the right track.

To make sure you are in the right way, you should own certain markers’ qualities that will help you on your path to success. Some of these qualities may be a part of your personality, but it is always worth making the effort to learn or improve upon skills that you need to use.

The main factor that affects everything in your life is your attitude.

What are attitudes?

Attitudes are internal characters of the heart and thoughts. They are the hidden intentions which will eventually serve as the basis for our actions.

Your attitude can affect everything you do in your life. Generally, if your attitude is bad and the desire just isn't there, you are burned out. If Your Attitude is bad you won't get very high. If your attitude is good, then your chances for success are great.

If you have a bad attitude the negativity will show in everything you do. No matter what you are doing, your results will be poor and your business will do poor. You CAN reach your goals, whatever they happen to be, if only you develope a positive attitude.

Developing a Positive Attitude

"Your attitude will determine your altitude."

If you have a bad attitude, you can change it if you WANT to. A bad attitude is immediately passed on to your customers and that's the quickest way to scare someone off. There are a lot of people who have great latent, but their attitude is the disqualifier of their life.

If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give your best effort, eventually you will overcome your immediate problems and find you are ready for greater challenges.

- Avoid spending time with negative people. Avoid spending time with people who make you anxious, or make you feel unhappy. These are the types of people that will drain your energy. A good thing for you to do instead is to hang out with great, positive people that suit your style. Their attitudes will be contagious.

- Learn to be self-confident. Be nice to everyone. That doesn’t mean letting other people taking advantage of you.

- Help people to get what they want and you will get what you want.

- Be a problem-solver, and you will build your credibility and reputation as someone who gets things done.

Wyess said. “A good attitude makes you feel better. Others see this and judge you by that. People want to work in an upbeat environment, and attitudes play an important role in shaping the work environment.”

You need to be self disciplined. “Discipline is a mark of a leader. “

Always do your best, use self-control, be self-disciplined and think before you act. All of the energy and self-belief in the world will not help you, if you cannot be self-disciplined in completing tasks.

- Schedule everything, schedule all of your tasks inside ACT. Without a schedule, everything ends up in a chaotic mess of random activity. But scheduling is not enough if you don’t work with your schedule.

- Organize your work. You can't be efficient unless you're organised. You don't have to be firm about it, but you must have some system for organising your work. Any system is better than no system, but whatever system you choose, it should organize your tasks in a doable program.

- Learn to manage your time efficiently. Make your workday more effective to grow your business. Take control of your life. Use the best used techniques in the art of goal setting, planning, organizing, prioritizing and delegation.

It’s a good idea if you spend 15 minutes per day planning; controlling time robbers; organising paperwork; and delegating effectively.

Work on relationship building.

The relationship is very important because it enables your business to develop, and enables you to learn and benefit in many ways. You make time for other things in your life every day, and your work on your relationship should be no different. You need to reserve time each day to get your relationship recharged.

The right relationship is everything. If people don't like you, you're not going to be successful with them. Remember, people won't go along with you if they can't get along with you. If people don't like you or trust you or understand you, their not going to buy from you, no matter how much you know about business.

Building relationship online may be somewhat more difficult compared to meeting a customer in person in offline business, you can accomplish this if you think of your potential clients in each step you make when building your business.

Learn to do these things for your own peace of mind. Not only your business can benefit; but every aspect of your life can benefit when you take responsibility and take control.

Well, here are some considerations for choosing a successful MLM business opportunity to start out your own business.

Article Body:

MLM business opportunities are the rage now on the internet realm. Almost everyday, a new MLM business opportunity is born. If someone decides to learn how to earn money online, the first opportunity that surfaces will probably be a MLM business opportunity. With so many MLM business opportunities sprouting up everyday, how will you know which ones are here to stay and which ones will be gone the next day? How do you decide if it will eventually allow you to earn a nice income working at home?

In order to succeed at any MLM business, a lot depends on the individual’s qualities. But nevertheless, a successful MLM business opportunity will always give its members an edge over other MLM companies. So how will you know if the MLM business opportunity you are considering is able to give you that “edge”? Well, here are some considerations for choosing a successful MLM business opportunity to start out your own business.

1. Great Products
Although MLM business opportunities promise great wealth for members who market the opportunity successfully, they are still essentially businesses and should provide a tangible product. A great product is one aspect of a MLM business opportunity that cannot be overlooked. A MLM business cannot survive solely on the opportunity it provides. No MLM business opportunity will be able to sustain itself without a great product and no members will be willing to stay on as members if there is no tangible benefit for them.

2. Great Compensation Plan
At the end of the day, the honest intention of anyone joining a MLM business opportunity is to be able to earn money. The products can be great and will be an added bonus in enticing people to join and stay on as pure consumers. But the majority of people who join have the sole intention of making it their main source of income and this is where a great compensation plan comes into play to bring about the best in all its members.

So what makes up a great compensation plan? There are many existing compensation plans that vary wildly in structure but ultimately a great compensation plan should be able to reward the most committed members for their sponsoring efforts. Incentives should be given to members who are able to sponsor the most members while members who are not as adept in sponsorship should still be able to reap reasonable rewards for their efforts. Ultimately, a great compensation plan will determine its members’ income and the life value of the MLM business opportunity.

3. Great Support and Training
This is the final piece of the puzzle and the most important component. Statistics show more than 80 percent of the people who join MLM business opportunities ultimately fail and give up. They move on and consider the experience as a lesson learnt or a miscalculated investment. But the truth is most failures do not result from bad decision but from bad support and training. A truly successful MLM business opportunity should be able to provide the necessary support for its members such as marketing materials, advertising avenues, thorough product and compensation details etc. Full training and upline to downline support must be available. Training sessions such as marketing techniques, how to get leads and lead conversion tactics are essential training that can make or break any MLM member. All members should be groomed to become good leaders who can in turn pass on their skills and techniques effectively. Only so can the success of a MLM business opportunity be assured.

The desire and commitment of an individual is indeed a key component to the wealth and success achievable. But making the right decision to take on the right business is also instrumental in aiding a person’s success. Choose a right MLM business opportunity with the essential qualities for success and commit to making it your own success, only then can you live the dream you truly desire.

Business Tools to Help You Run a Successful Business

Setting up a small business, whether web based or not, can be a very time consuming and difficult task. The increasing popularity of the Internet and the resources available has seen a massive increase in business tools to help you on your way.

When setting up a business, even the best prepared among us will struggle to do everything and remember everything. It is very unlikely that we will understand all of the financial and legal ramifications of a new business, especially when we need to concentrate on getting that elusive first sale or completing the first contract. It isn’t always feasible to employ an accountant and a solicitor as well as a secretary, a salesperson and any other workers needed in the daily running of the business. So, we need to be able to diversify when setting up a new business and the best piece of advice anyone can give you to help is to make the most of the widely available business tools on the market.

Financial Documents and Tools

An accountant is a very expensive commodity that many new businesses can afford full-time. It is down to us to undertake as much of the financial side of things as possible; a daunting task indeed. There is help at hand in the form of business tools.

Spreadsheets have become immensely powerful and can do much of the financial work that any business needs, even invoicing. The Internet is awash with free standard documents for almost any occasions; if you aren’t proficient at doing this yourself, you can find balance sheets, daily cash sheets and almost anything you could need.

The Legal Minefield

Mention legal documents to a new business owner and most will curse you. Again, paying for a lawyer to create all your contracts and other legal documents is a cost that new businesses may not be able to afford. Look at other contracts, get ideas off the internet and take a look at the standard contract and terms and conditions guidelines and when you’re ready, book a session with an affordable attorney and let them look over everything. This way you will only pay once and get all the information you need for an affordable price.

It is important that you get any legal documents checked at least once. A poorly written contract can cost you a lot more than the lawyer’s fees.

Human Resources

Human Resources, or personnel as it was once known, will become very important when you start to employ staff. There are a lot of rules and regulations to abide by as well as a lot of extra information to store that is both important and
confidential.

You can get time and attendance software, standard contracts, standard terms and conditions and software to look after your payroll details.

These are just a few tools available to new business owners. To do a job right requires the right tools. It is better to spend time researching your options first to find the right tools, than to get yourself into a real bind attempting to do the job with the wrong (or no) tools. You will find that the time it takes to get the right tools will pay off time and time again.

Five Stumbling Blocks To Successful Networking And How To Overcome Them

Overcome these five stumbling blocks to successful networking and supercharge your career and your business.

Article Body:

The ability to connect with people is essential to success in any business. Professional networking events present opportunities to interact with others on a personal level and to develop profitable relationships. These occasions are critical for anyone who wants to grow a business or promote a career.

Many people are simply not comfortable walking into a room full of strangers and striking up conversations. Here are five common stumbling blocks that you may face and tips to help you overcome them.

A RELUCTANCE TO TALK TO STRANGERS. You were taught at an early age not to speak to people you don't know. It's not safe. In certain situations today this is still good advice. In business, however, talking to strangers is a way to generate interest and support for your products and services. If you only talk to the people you already know, you will miss out on opportunities to make new connections and establish valuable contacts.

To get past your discomfort in talking to strangers, set a goal for yourself before you attend any networking event. Decide how many new contacts you want to make or how many strangers you want to meet. In some cases, you may specifically target individuals whom you'd like to know.

Next come up with some icebreakers or conversation starters. Have questions prepared that you can ask anyone you meet at the event. You may want to inquire about other people's business, their connection to the sponsoring organization or their opinion of the venue.

LACK OF A FORMAL INTRODUCTION. It's much easier to make a new contact when there is someone else to handle the introduction and pave the way. If you wait for another person to make the move you may not meet anyone. At networking events, the goal is to meet as many people as possible.

This is the time to take the bull by the horns, walk up to people you don't know, introduce yourself and start a conversation. You can do this if you have prepared your self-introduction in advance.

You will not introduce yourself the same way on every occasion. Perhaps it is your first time to attend an association meeting. In that case, you might want to say that as part of your introduction. Let people know who you are, why you are there and give them a reason to ask more abut you.

FEAR OF BEING SEEN AS PUSHY. You may think that you will turn people off if you are assertive and that if they want to talk to you, they will make the first move. If this is your line of thinking you will find yourself spending your time alone at the reception or meeting function and leaving without a single new connection. Being open, friendly and interested does not turn people off.

You will not come across as overly aggressive if you seek out the "approachable" people. These are the ones who are standing alone or who are speaking in groups of three or more. Two people talking to each other are not approachable because they may be having a private conversation and you would be interrupting.

THINKING THAT OTHER PEOPLE MAY NOT LIKE YOU. There is always the risk that the other person is not interested in you and doesn't want to meet or talk to you. It happens. If that is the case, don't take it personally. Nothing ventured is nothing gained. When you get a cold shoulder, smile, move on and say to yourself, "Next?"

HAVING YOUR INTENTIONS MISUNDERSTOOD. Approaching someone of the opposite sex to begin a conversation may seem more like flirting than networking. This is more of an issue for women than men. Women have an equal place in the work arena and need to make professional connections the same as men do. Women in business can no longer afford to hold back when there is opportunity at hand.

Neither men nor women will have their motives misinterpreted if they present themselves professionally in their attire and if they keep the conversation focused on business issues or topics that are not personal or private.

Whatever your stumbling blocks, face them before the next networking event and devise a personal plan for getting past them. Once you do, you will find yourself connecting with confidence and courtesy on every occasion and the results will be reflected in your bottom line.

Running a home based business is convenient and costs less but requires a great deal of time and energy to make it successful. When you make a decision to earn income from a home based business you will need to follow some basic steps and guidelines to be successful.

A business operated from home starts and ends with self-discipline. It is easy to give in to all the temptations that are present at home. Be it staying in bed longer on a cold morning, watching television, or surfing the web if you do not commit yourself to your home based enterprise, it will fail before it begins. No wonder 96% of the population that begins a home based business fails within the first few months. Self-discipline also applies to the basic day to day operation of your home business. As a home business owner if you do not see to record keeping, book keeping, marketing and other duties then your home business will eventually fail.

Another thing that can either make or break your home business is your attitude. Treat your home business like a business. This is critical whether you are working part-time or full-time. Always have a full-time attitude even when you are working part-time. Do not treat your home business like a hobby. Hobby attitude will produce hobby income. Have a business attitude and you will earn business income. Most people who decide to work from home end up working in their "spare time" and the business fails within few months if not days.

When operating a business from home make sure to create a space that you call your own, free from distractions for your scheduled time. Make sure to have a comfortable chair, an organized desk, and stationary supplies (pens, highlighters, stapler, hole puncher, sticky tape, note book(s), a simple filing system, manilla folders, etc.....). If your home business is an Internet business then consider the value of a broadband connection. Your time is valuable and a broadband connection will allow you to get more done in a given time frame.

Scheduling is the backbone of a home business. Develop a schedule that works for you, your family and business. Only work for your home business during the time you have scheduled for it. Do not do business work during the time you have alloted for other activities (family time, reading, exercise, leisure time, etc.) Your schedule is your "boss." Are you committed to your home business success? What will be your choice in situations, for example, when people calling you or dropping around unexpectedly or maybe out-of-town visitors may want to catch up with you? You are the person who decides what is important to you. Decide wisely.

Confindently and concisely describing your business in a few sentences is extremely powerful. Work on creating a short description which can easily be remembered by others so they can tell their family and friends about it. Remember word of mouth is very powerful.

Know your product or service "from the back of your hand" before you decide to market or sell it. Customers are interested in purchasing a quality product or service. Provide quality information about your product or service and you will definitely become a preferred supplier. Remember the product or service that you are marketing or selling may not be something you use yourself, it just needs to be something you believe in and know intimately. For example, women may choose to sell men's products (and vice versa) and still know the benefits and features to satisfy customers.

Be a good record keeper early on as you begin your home business. You will be glad in the long run and will sleep better too. You may need a tax advisor to consult about the best way to set up your financial records. Your advisor can also point out what records are important to keep. Also, you may obtain an advice on the best arrangement for your bank accounts. You should and will be advices to create a seperate bank account for your home business. If your home business is an Internet based business you may want to check out www.treepad.com and www.roboform.com to help you keep track of your logins, usernames and passwords. Both of these tools are very handy and can save you a lot of time.

Also, when operating a home business that is Internet based it is extremely important that you protect your computer and the data that is stored therein. You must invest in software(s) that provide virus protection, personal firewall, anti-spyware, anti-adware, and preferably an e-mail scanner.

Some recommendations are:

AVG Anti-Virus: http://www.grisoft.com
Spybot S&D: http://www.safer-networking.org
Microsoft Anti-Spyware: www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Adaware: http://www.lavasoft.com/
Mailwasher Email Scanner: http://www.mailwasher.net.

Along with working hard it is important to work smart. Follow the advice above and you will surely succeed. "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose."

He can have a simple medium size fifteen or twenty-five page booklets with interesting illustrations and images and it will do the job for him. Keep in mind though that the booklet should be attractive in appearance and content as most advertising materials are short lived, but a well created and designed booklet can probably live longer than most materials. It can tell the story for you. It can detail your business like no other promotional material can at a very affordable price. And if produced rightly it will get you those customers that you need.

Customers: The Key To Successful Marketing

How well do you know your customers?

What is the primary reason your customers or clients come to you? Or purchase your product or service? What is the Number One problem you solve for them? Do you know? Are you certain? If you don't, your marketing could be missing the mark, and you could be missing out on sales.

Uncovering Your "Key Selling Point"

This is the Single Marketing Message that is the central message in all of your communications about your business, product or service. It can be difficult for small business owners to determine what their single marketing message should be. Why? Because they are too close to their business. And, because they are viewing their business from their side of the desk.

Keeping your marketing customer-focused can be a challenge

Even if we know we should be looking at our business from our customers' perspective, it's often easier said than done. As a result, it is easy to get caught up in all the amazing features of our product or service and the reasons we THINK our clients are attracted or are buying.

But sometimes our vantage point is clouded by our own perceptions and beliefs. And those perceptions and beliefs may be inaccurate. So how do you pinpoint the real reason customers are attracted to your product or service and the true reasons they are choosing to buy?

There is an easy way to stay on track

Very simply, YOU ASK THEM! Okay, I know it seems obvious, but you'd be surprised how often we don't think of the obvious.

Your prospects and customers (and yes, even your rejecters — those who visit but don't buy) can provide great insights about the benefits they value most in your product or service and why they chose to buy.

Whether you have a lot of customers or only a few

You don't have to have a large customer or prospect base to do some research to see if you are on track. Even if you only have a handful of clients or customers, contact them and ask them what they like most about your product or service.

Talk to your Clients or Customers

(1) What is the one thing that got them to purchase?

(2) Have you delivered on that promise?

(3) What do they like least about your product or service?

(4) How could you improve your product or service?

(5) What else (in your business category) do they have a need for?

(6) How else could you help them be successful, be happier, or solve whatever problem your product or service solves for them?

Talk to your Rejecters

If you choose to survey rejecters (which I have done very successfully for years for one of my clients) find out why they DIDN'T buy.

(1) Ask them what product or service they bought instead of yours? And why?

(2) Ask them what that competing product or service offered that yours did not?

(3) Ask if there is anything you could do to get their business in the future? Product or service changes, additions, deletions?

Talk to your Prospects

Do you have a list of prospects — those who have expressed an interest in your product or service but have not yet purchased? Perhaps they have subscribed to your newsletter or ezine.

(1) Ask them for feedback on your newsletter or ezine content.

(2) What topics are they interested in learning more about?

(3) How can you help them to be more successful, happier, etc?

(4) Find out what they want and who they are

And in all three cases — Clients/Customers, Rejecters, and Prospects — if it seems appropriate, ask for a little information about who they are. Age, gender, profession, where they live, how much they typically spend in your product or service category.

This will help you get a better understanding of your target audience and you'll know if you're attracting the kind of people you thought would be interested in your product or service. And if you need to change your marketing strategy to reach a different audience, or to perhaps change your target audience.

It will help you better serve them

The more you can learn about your prospects and customers the better you can serve them. And the more effectively you can market to them.

You may be in for a surprise

I've had clients tell me they thought they knew why people were buying from them until they asked. And what they heard surprised and shocked them.

Very often what you hear can help you zero-in on a Unique Selling Proposition that you never thought of. And because it came from the mouths of your customers you know it is compelling and effective.

Don't change everything based on a few opinions

My only caution is if you only have a handful of customers or prospects to survey, don't make any major changes or decisions until you are able to validate your findings among a larger group of people.

Or at least test any changes you do make before making a final decision to overhaul your entire business or marketing plan. Common sense is the rule here. Just use your own good judgment and don't over-react to comments made by only a handful of people.

You can ask in a number or ways - Choose what works for you

There are any number of ways to collect research from your prospects and customers. You can telephone them, email them, mail them a written questionnaire, or you can meet with them in a group (called a focus group) to collect their opinions.

You can be as formal or informal as you feel comfortable. Typically the larger number of clients you survey, the more formal the survey. If you have only a handful of people to talk to, simply pick up the phone and call them.

Don't be afraid to ASK

Don't be afraid to ask for opinions on your products or services or how you can serve your clients better. What you find out could be extremely valuable in helping you to build and grow your business.

Don't forget to say "thank you"

You will also want to consider offering an incentive to encourage your prospects and clients to participate or respond. A bonus, such as a special report, or a discount on a future purchase is a nice way to show your appreciation for them taking the time to respond to your survey.

Credit Policy - Rules For Successful Computer Consultants

Credit polices are set for your protection. Make sure you establish the willingness, ability, and history of payment by establishing clear and concise credit policies.

Credit policies need to be set to protect yourself from non-payment. If you make sure you have clear credit policies from the start you will reduce your risk of nonpayment. To do this there are a few simple rules you should follow:

Rules For Credit Policies

With every written credit policy, include two or three sentences that explain credit is granted subject to credit approval. This way if you grant credit you always leave yourself an out if they refuse to give you a credit application, the credit application is incomplete, or you do a credit check on them and they have horrendous credit. You MUST be able to refuse credit.

Insist on getting a deposit check with the credit application. This credit policy allows you to assess ability and willingness to pay by making sure the check does not bounce.

Your credit policy must ensure you get a complete reference and credit check for each applicant. If you are dealing with brand new businesses that do not have a credit history then your credit policy should maintain that these contracts are done with a credit card. Don't take the chance.

When establishing your credit policy make sure you do to the reference checks. You'd be amazed at some of the things that come back.

Last rule for credit policies; be really conservative with your lines of credit. You can always extend lines of credit, but you can't cut lines of credit without damaging the relationship. Start low and end high.

The Bottom Line on Credit Policies

Credit polices are set for your protection. Granting credit is a client convenience but ultimately you only want clients that pay you. When you establish your credit policies make sure you cover off these simple rules. They will ensure you get paid and that you remain in business long enough to grant lots of worthy credit.

Characteristics Of A Successful Entrepreneur

Studies have shown that successful entrepreneurs possess these characteristics:

Keywords:

entrepreneur,franchise,jobs,careers,mentoring,coaching,marketing,small business,at home business

Article Body:

Studies have shown that successful entrepreneurs possess these characteristics:

1. Self-confidence

This is that magical power of having confidence in oneself and in one's powers and abilities.

2. Achievement Oriented

Results are gained by focused and sustained effort. They concentrate on achieving a specific goal, not just accomplishing a string of unrelated tasks.

3. Risk Taker

They realize that there is a chance of loss inherent in achieving their goals, yet they have the confidence necessary to take calculated risks to achieve their goals.

Entrepreneurs are people who will make decisions, take action, and think that they can control their own destinies. They are often motivated by a spirit of independence which leads them to believe that their success depends on raw effort and hard work, not luck.

So which of these three main characteristics is the most important? Believe it or not, it has to be self-confidence. Without self-confidence, nothing else is possible. If you don't believe in your abilities, then the first challenge that arises may knock you off the path to achieving your goals. Here are a few things to keep in mind for maintaining a higher level of self-confidence.

Positive Thinking

Well, it all starts with a positive attitude, doesn't it? Believing that something good will happen is the first step. Negative thinking simply is not allowed. You must truly believe that there are no circumstances strong enough to deter you from reaching your goals. Remember too, that positive thinking can be contagious. When positive thinking spreads, it can open doors to new ideas, customers, friends, etc.

Persistent Action

Now all of the positive thinking and believing in the world is useless if it is not applied towards a goal. You have to take action, no excuses are allowed. This action must also be persistent. Trying once and then giving up is not going to be enough. Keep at it one step at a time. If you can't get by a certain step, then find a creative way to try again or just go around it.

At the beginning of this article we identified a few traits that are common among successful entrepreneurs. You should be able to look ahead and see yourself where you want to be. Now just maintain a strong belief in yourself and your skills, stick with it, and don't give up. If you can do that, you're already half way there!

Creating Successful Team Charters

Do you have a team that is frustrated, not making progress, or unclear about expectations? There is one single thing that can alleviate or eliminate these challenges and get the team off to a solid start…a team charter.

Article Body:

How many times have you been on, or heard about a team that got frustrated? Or felt like they weren’t making progress? Or weren’t completely clear on what they were expected to do? Or didn’t feel like they had support from those above them?

If you are like me and most people I know, you are nodding yes to one or more of the questions above.

There is one single thing that can alleviate or eliminate these challenges and get the team off to a solid start. That single thing is a team charter.

What is a Team Charter?

A charter is a document that describes the purpose, boundaries and agreements of the team (the details are below). It is co-created by whoever is sponsoring or forming the team and by those who will be on the team. The power of this document comes from the conversation and agreements that are recorded on it.

Because the power comes from the agreements that are reached, the format of the document itself is less important than the conversation. Whatever the format, the components in the next section should be considered.

What is Included?

Team charters should address the following areas and answer the related questions.

• Purpose and Alignment. Why is this team being formed? What purpose will it serve? What challenge, problem, issue or opportunity will it address? How is the work of this team in alignment with the larger goals and strategies of the organization?

• Goals and Expectations. What are the specific goals for this team? When will we know we have completed their work? Who are Customers and Stakeholders of the team’s work? What are their needs and expectations? What are the obstacles or challenges that can be seen at the start? Make sure to state the goals clearly with measurable outcomes and timelines.

• Roles. Who is the team leader? What is their role? Who is responsible for facilitation, logistics, and information management? Who will be responsible for communication to stakeholders and the team sponsor? How will each person be involved in decision making?

• Approach. How and when will the team meet? What are the norms or ground rules that the team will agree to? How we make decisions? How will we hold each other accountable for these things and for task completion? Who will communicate team progress and to whom? Your charter should also include a high level look at the major phases or milestones in the life of the team and outline those.

• Skills and expertise required. Make a listing of the skills and expertise that will be required for team success. Identify the individual on the team that can provide those skills and perspectives. Identify any gaps in skills and determine a way to attach those skills to the team through other resources. Adding these skills doesn’t mean you have to add people to the team. It means that subject matter experts can best be identified and invited to participate in the beginning and a charter helps make that happen.

• Resources needed. What budget of time and money will be needed for this project? What other resources will be required?

• Authority. What level of authority on spending does the team have? What authority do they have for other resources? What approvals will be required and by who?

• Agreement. Once all of these questions and items have been documented, your charter should be signed by the team sponsor and each team member. This will cement the agreement and make it easier to hold people accountable. It also ensures that every team member understands and is on board with the complete charter.

How do I Implement a Team Charter?

Because there is some structure required, typically a leader who is forming or sponsoring a team would initiate the process. If this doesn’t happen in your organization don’t use that as an excuse! Whatever your role you can gain support for having a conversation that leads you to the clarity and agreements that a charter will provide.

Get the team together along with the leader who formed and/or is sponsoring your team. Have a conversation about the eight items above, documenting your agreements. You may be able to finalize a charter in one meeting, or it might require people to gather more information before finishing - do what makes sense given the size, complexity and importance of the team’s output. Remember all time invested here will be repaid many times. Resist the urge and tendency to “get this done and get on with the work.”

Once the document is created, have all parties sign it as a way to signify commitment to each other. Then keep the document fresh by referring to it in team meetings and making sure that you stay on-track with the boundaries and guidance it provides. Recognize too that as time moves forward you may need to make adjustments, clarifications or changes to the charter. This is perfectly fine as long as all team members and the leader and sponsor are in agreement and “sign on” to the changes.

Be Forewarned

Will creating a team charter take time?

Absolutely.

Will some people want to stop talking and get started?

For sure.

Recognize these facts but remember an even bigger one – time spent collaboratively building a charter will be repaid in reduced frustration, improved productivity and better results.

Essentials for a successful home business

Essentials to start a home based business. Information isn't limited to doing business online or offline.

What do I think is necessary to successfully run a home based business?

1) A normal common business sense, determination to succeed and investment money

2) A product, service or program to sell.

3) Your own website

4) Advertising possibilities

5) Leads

6) In case of your own selling website there will be a need of an autoresponder

7) Customer Support

8) Good administration

A normal common business sense, determination to succeed and investment money

Nowadays there are people willing to start a business online without having the sense what running a business is all about.

A business is something you plan and doesn’t come free by only registering your company. Once registering is done you can’t sit back and wait till money is coming in. Off course ads and other sources can tell us that money is coming in when you have signed up for something but it doesn’t work that way. A business owner has to face a lot of bad things opposed to the good things a business can bring. To cope with all these influences you need to stand strong and have a determination to reach your goals.

Then there is another factor that you can make money free without doing anything. Doing business is hard work and is surely not limited to a 9 to 5 job.

When a normal business day is over, then there are other tasks to perform to carry out your business as usual. I mention administration, networking, taking care of your customers and other work that keeps your business going. A common working week for a business owner can easily take up more than 60 hours and is not limited from Monday till Friday.

Every business has to invest in order to succeed. Yes, there are many resources on the internet that you can use for free but for a good result you need to invest to secure your turnover on a later stage.

A business can’t be build by having a separate room and a computer alone. Off course if you have these things already then you have made a start but it is necessary to invest time, effort and money to succeed.
