Thinking on your feet is a critical skill for any business leader when it comes to solving unexpected issues that arise on the job. This is the number one reason my clients state for hiring me. No matter what obstacles come my way, I always find a way to work things out.

Do you remember the television program MacGyver, from the mid-80s, starring Richard Dean Anderson? Jog your memory by clicking here: http://rdanderson.com/macgyver/macgyver.htm

MacGyver was notorious for solving problems by using science and his wits with very minimal resources. And, he came through every time. Wouldn’t it be great to have someone like him on your team? Or, even better, wouldn’t it be great if you had even just a few of the skills that MacGyver exhibited?

Follow these simple steps to learn how to think to think on your feet and solve problems while doing more with less.

SIX TIPS FOR THINKING ON YOUR FEET

1. Trust yourself and others. Learn to go with your gut and trust your ideas. Take this advice from Improvisational Comedians, “If you feel your feet moving – follow them!” Do the same for your work colleagues.

2. Develop a “yes, and…” mentality. Don’t negate or deny ideas. Get rid of “yes, but …” Accept the information that comes to you and work with it.

3. Be in the moment. Remember to listen, watch and concentrate. You have to pay attention! Don’t worry about past failures or attempts at thinking on your feet – think in present-tense only.

4. Accept new ideas without judgement. See where the new idea takes you.

5. Make actional choices. In Improv, you would go somewhere or do something. By taking action, you increase your focus. Do the same in business!

6. Work to the top of your intelligence. Challenge yourself to see what you can discover. Try not to create a box that isn’t there.

Thinking on your feet is child’s play. Literally. Next time you are around children watch how they take in new information and move quickly to make changes to what they are doing. They are all mini-experts at thinking on their feet.

If you want to be the MacGyer of your workplace, try these tips and remember, be flexible, be open to the possibilities, and be ready to have fun. The next time the universe (or your boss!) drops a challenge in your lap, smile and say, “Bring it on!”

Don't Think Objections Are Necessarily Bad.

Many salespeople perceive prospects' objections negatively. When these salespeople hear objections, they simply see them as obstacles in the way of closing a sale. However, there are more positive ways you and your salespeople can view objections.

Begin by examining the positive aspects of a prospect’s objections to see them as challenges. Any salesperson who wants a job without difficult questions should go to the stadium and sell hot dogs! The point is, without the challenges of selling, you would simply be an order-taker, and sales is certainly not that!

In terms of personal satisfaction, the number of objections you meet on a daily basis in your particular marketplace tends to indicate the amount of money and prestige that is assigned to your particular position. In general, people are rewarded for the amount of difficulty that goes with what they do. Going back to the ball park example, common knowledge tells us that those who sell hot dogs at ballgames definitely do not generate as much income as those who encounter objections regularly in their sales positions. Where would you prefer to be on the financial ladder? Would you rather be on top, facing numerous objections throughout your sales day, or on the bottom, facing no objections or adversity but making no money?

You should be optimistic when you are faced with an objection or tough question. You should see this objection as an indicator that you are moving in some sort of direction: either successfully completing the sale or failing to make the sale. In either case you know where you are and what you need to do in order to move ahead, take corrective action, or break off the relationship. When a prospect voices his or her concern over a certain aspect of your product or service, a chance has arisen for you to redirect your sales presentation. You now have the chance to move away from things that the prospect sees as undesirable in favor of moving towards those things that the prospect wants from you, your organization, or your product or service. Unless the prospect's objections completely blow away your product's benefits, you still have the opportunity to save the sale.

Objections also give you the opportunity to hone your sales skills. The more objections that you face and successfully conquer, the better salesperson you become. As you start to notice patterns in the ways prospects present their objections as well as the consistent themes in these objections, you will be able to almost predict what kinds of objections your prospects will present. You’ll learn how to ask questions that help you flush them out or even eliminate them. Knowledge leads to improvement, so knowledge involving the ways you deal with prospects' objections can only lead to improvement in your sales record, and, in turn, improvement in your income.

While objections obviously present salespeople with barriers to actually finalizing transactions, viewing these objections and tough questions in a positive light can only help you make more sales. Objections can be seen as challenging aspects of your sales job and mastering objections can lead to an improvement in your sales performance as well as your income. Objections may also be seen as a guide that points you in the right direction toward closing the sale. Finally, these questions and objections help the salesperson become skilled in dealing with objections. Remember, "Practice does make Perfect," and the case of conquering objections is no different.

Death Of A Salesman? It’s What Happens When The Customer Says “I’ll Think It Over!”

You have given a great presentation, you ask for the order and the customer says he‘s going to think it over. This was the moment I felt was the last straw. I’d had it! I don’t want to sell anymore; I’m going back to bookkeeping! So, without a care in mind I said whatever came to mind and it worked! Let me share my epiphany with you.

I was selling employment testing material that was based on the teachings of a well-known sales trainer. The question that brought the most conversation was about closing. How do you ask for an order? When someone says I’ll think it over, do you become the nice customer service type that says “fine, call me when you’re ready” or do you go for the throat and say “what is there to think about?” You know the first response is totally wrong and the second, which is the suggested answer, will probably turn the customer off. You try to say it nicely but at this point it’s likely he’s not going to say much more. What did I do? I said gently and with a smile in my voice, “Mr. Customer, could you think out loud so I can hear you?”

I must tell you, I did not expect the response I got. He laughed heartily and said he could do that. He proceeded to tell me his reasoning and I proceeded to answer all his objections. We were both very relaxed; he purchased my product and congratulated me on my question and my closing.

There’s an old adage that says, “A smile given to another can make the difference in their day and yours too.”

Needless to say, I decided selling could be fun. I did not go back to boring bookkeeping and now that I’ve retired, these words ‘could you think out loud so I can hear you’ are my present to you.

Get Rich Quick Scams Revealed

Read this article before you consider paying for a "get rich quick" program.

From: Get paid

Everybody would love to make lots of money quickly, working from home, and only doing a few hours of work per week. I've spent the past two years trying to find a great way of doing this. Only over the course of the past few months have I found any "get rich quick" programs worth buying. I've been trying to make money online for a long time. I had a few small websites, but they never made much more than a few hundred per month. It was easy money and didn't require much work on my part, but I knew there were people out there doing better than I was and I knew I could do as well as them.

Now, I've seen a lot of "get rich quick" programs. Most of these people make claims about earning $2000/day with Google or something similarly insane. Almost all of these people are complete liars. Even if they were making $2000/day with Google AdSense, it'd be because they had high- traffic websites with a lot of quality content. I'd know, because in one whole month, I never even made half of what they promised I'd make daily with their programs. Maybe you've already been scammed by one of these fraudsters. Anyway, I finally got sick of what was being offered.

I decided I'd look through the all of the "get rich quick" programs I could find and see if there were any that were actually legitimate. I found that there were owners selling their programs for well over $100, but the information in them could be found almost anywhere online for free. Additionally, they all contained out-of-date information, had no e-mail support, no money back guarantees, and broken links in the downloads section.

In conclusion, almost all of the programs I found were completely useless. The owners knew it, but they couldn't care less about their customers since they didn't offer refund policies! Amazingly, while looking through all of the programs, I actually did find a few legitimate programs. They were run by ordinary people like you and me, and they had found some great methods of making money from their home by doing very little work.

I spent some time working with those programs, and my income is now ten times what it used to be. These programs provided a large amount of great information on how to make extra money on your computer doing very little work. Numerous customers had provided great feedback and reviews for their products. Many of them have started to make money just days after buying!

Their programs have excellent prices, and the authors have a group of paid staff who are dedicating to helping you or providing assistance if you need any. I must say I was amazed! If you do decide to purchase any of the programs listed below, I recommend you join quickly. Most of the owners tell me they are getting an overwhelming number of sales and plan on raising prices in the near future, so order while prices are still low!
