Article Body:

When business owners are looking for a one-stop solution for their daily business needs, they have to look no further than the services provided by a business service franchise. Business services franchises make life more convenient for small business owners by serving many of their needs; and the they have a chance to work and grow with those businesses in the community. Business services franchises are ideal for people who've been involved with other business services careers but now want a chance to start their own business. Because business services franchises are structured to adapt to changing market trends, they're increasingly sought after by entrepreneurs who desire a small business that is able to stay on the cutting edge of today's rapidly changing economic times.

Business services franchises emerged to meet the demands of businesses that depend on outsourcing to correct their company's bottom line. Becuase these small businesses are presented with a new supply of honest service providers, they are able to cut down on low-end overheads and can effectively meet their financial obligations. The money saved because of outsourcing can be effectively utilized on other business functions. Business services franchises not only market and sell financial services, but just about any type of service that small businesses depend upon. The wide range of services provided by these franchises include cleaning, expense reduction, direct mail, shipping and receiving, brokerage services, consulting, and advertising.

Don't overlook the importance of finding a well known franchise company or a franchise company with a good reputation when you invest your dollars. With franchising systems "you get what you pay for," as the old saying goes-this can't be further from the truth. Low-end franchisors will have you believe that they offer the best system available. Regardless of how extraordinary they make this deal sound, you have to take caution when dealing with low-end franchise companies. Many of these franchisors are interested in selling only a training manual and authorization to use their company name-rarely do they care about seeing their franchisees’ succeed. Established franchisors have very high standards and will not award a franchise to just anybody who can afford a franchise fee. They profile every potential franchisee to weed out the ones who don't make a good match for their company. These highly-developed franchises will typically be more expensive than a lower-end franchise, but also go to great lengths to ensure the success of their franchisees.

Every business in America has very specific needs that must be met in order for their doors to remain open and so they can provide their services and products to consumers. To meet the different needs of these businesses, business services franchises offer a wide range of products and services. You have countless job options in the business services industry to say the least. There are many different businesses with different needs in your community. Assess what services these businesses require by asking around. Then you will be able to settle on a specific franchise based on your research.

Are your customers asking for credit card processing services? If so, you may want to consider adding this service to your company’s Website in order to provide convenient payment methods that will bring back repeat business. Many companies today are moving more toward e-commerce, which means that if you want to avoid getting left behind, you should get ready to join the throng of professionals who are marching into the electronic age of doing business.

Although you may have relied on cash transactions up to now, you might find that is becoming more cumbersome to make correct change, accept checks that could bounce, and track delinquent payments, all while keeping track of each and every transaction. Farming out some of these tasks to hired help can be costly, which is why you may be able to benefit from credit card processing services. If you conduct business onsite at a primary facility, you can plug in a credit card processor and start taking credit payments immediately, which are far less likely to bounce than personal checks.

But you will first have to open a merchant account before establishing credit card processing services. Look for a longstanding bank with a solid reputation, one who currently offers merchant accounts to dependable business owners like you. Then be prepared to provide the required documentation that shows a stable credit history and a reasonable business plan that depends on credit card processing services. Upon approval, which can come within a few days, you will be able to purchase or rent credit card processing equipment and start accepting credit payments from your customers.

Credit card processing services can be established at your company’s Website. You do have a Website, don’t you? If not, that is the second important step into the 21st century that your company needs to take. Hire a Web designer or sketch a few ideas yourself. It need not be fancy or sophisticated, but rather a basic outline of your company’s services or products along with basic operating information. Then you will need to register a domain name for a small fee and then pay monthly “rental” fees to post your site in cyberspace. Hiring a designer or someone to maintain and update your site will cost a little more, although often you can find a high school or college student who can do this type of work at nominal cost. When your site is up and running and your merchant account is approved, you are ready to open the Website doors to current and new customers for business. They can browse at their convenience and pay by credit card without human assistance at each juncture. You can make money and save money at the same time.

If your company is growing, your customers are asking about credit payments, or you want to move forward with your business plan, give some thought to opening a merchant account, setting up an attractive Website, and adding the convenient, customer service option of credit card processing services.

Christian Services: Service or Using Others?

Are Christians taking advantage of other Christians in business by expecting a discount? If you are a Christian are you obligated to finding a Christian for products and services? This bold article takes an honest look at Christian business ethics.

Keywords:

Article Body:

I know a good Christian lady who cuts hair for a living. That’s her occupation. That’s how she makes a living. She is very good at it. Why is it that when Christians come to her shop they expect a “discount” just because they go to the same Church that she attends? There are some who refer to this practice as a “believer discount”.

Now I am not opposed to finding discounts and deals, but not at someone else’s expense. If someone decides that they want to give me a haircut at no charge, or half price, out of love, then that’s fine. But to just expect that Christian businesses are supposed to give discounts to all the “brothers and sisters” is not love. It’s actually an indication of a poverty mind set. I’ll explain that later.

For me to think that my Christian brothers and sisters are obligated to give me a cheaper price is selfish and it takes money away from them. Suppose you couldn’t find a Christian for the service or product you needed? What would you do? You would end up paying someone the price they charged.

I know some Christians who are very good at doing car repairs and some of them even do it as a business. And hardly a week or two goes by that another Christian asks them for help in fixing their car, expecting to pay little or nothing for services rendered. That is very selfish and, again, an indication of a poverty mentality.

Here’s a startling thought: pay your Christian brother or sister more than they normally charge! Now that’s a concept that has love written all over it. Why would you do that? First of all it is indeed a blessing to have a Christian provide a service or a product. If they operate their business with integrity and love, that love will have an impact on my life. Secondly, by believing God’s promises of abundance you can go over and beyond and give more to the person who is providing you the service or product. That increases their prosperity. But, if you have a poverty mentality, you are always looking for someone to charge you less for everything and expecting any Christian to give you a discount. Why not believe God’s promises of prosperity, receive His abundance, and then share that abundance with others?

Now I would rather pay a Christian for a product or service, but there is another side to this coin. Just because I am a Christian does that mean I have to find another Christian to provide my products and services? Suppose I know a Christian who could get the job done, but not with the quality I require? Am I obligated to hire a Christian anyway and then have inferior work done? Some say that would be the “Christian thing to do.” I say, “No.”

If I hire you to fix my car I am expecting you to know what you are doing and to do it right the first time. If that doesn’t happen then I have wasted the money God gave me to steward, not to mention the time that I have lost. Perhaps the “Christian thing to do” would be to be honest and tell someone that their work is not the quality that it could be. Instead of feeling obligated to hire them, why not give them some money so that they can get the training they need so they can do quality work? Feeling sorry for someone and then having them do a job that they or someone else will need to re-do it is not helping my brother or sister.

As a final thought, why shouldn’t Christian businesses be the best businesses on the face of the earth? That takes a lot more than just having a Christian sounding name. It means quality work. It means integrity and honesty. It means operating biblical principles of giving more value. Having a Christian business reflects back on our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, whether we own a business or are simply employed by someone, the “Christian thing to do” is to work heartily, ethically, and honestly with the love of God. Our light should so shine that everybody, Christians and non-Christians alike want our products and services.

Building A Financial Services Sales Culture

Examples of how banks have built new sales cultures successfully, resulting in significant new customers and business. Underscores with real life examples the importance of sales skills training connected to sales coaching for a period of time.

A growing number of community banks are recognizing that new and more aggressive competitors are taking new business they “believed” they would or “should” have. To help combat this they no longer accept the practice of “business as usual.” They are taking the time-proven actions it takes to train, coach and reward their key business development team members to get them out on the street. Program results are showing ROI’s of up to 30—to-1!

This isn’t easy, to say the least. A major culture change is required for most community banks when it comes to selling. Bankers have long been of the mindset that banking is a business built when prospects come to the bank and request the service they want. Unfortunately the consumer has developed a slightly different mindset lately.

“Yes, my banker and I have a good relationship but that doesn’t mean I will only consult them for financial needs and services. There are lots of other options. ” Friends are friends but when money is involved there is a different emotion involved……greed.

The CEO of First Bank in Ketchikan, Alaska, Bill Moran, decided something new must be tried when he started planning for this new year. “I realized that to meet our growth goals we must be more aggressive about taking business from our competition and improve our “unfair share” of our market. There wasn’t sufficient  market expansion to maintain our historical growth and profit levels.”

First Bank launched its’ new effort with a 120-day action plan in January 2006 for its’ six branches. The intended focus was to be solely on gaining new customers and establishing new relationships.

“Some of the participating officers found it very difficult to break away from the familiar clients to concentrate only on prospects that had no prior relationship, “said Eric Bjella, VP and Program Manger.

The first step was to assess the sales strengths of each team member. It was important to know who were likely to make calls and build relationships easily (Hunters) and those with good processing and service-related skills but less confidence in their abilities to communicate with prospects (Farmers).  This was followed with a professional sales skills training session which included each member identifying from 5-10 prospects.

“The individual assessments and audience reactions to the training were very informative,” said Bjella. “Some of our people felt they never could be successful at making cold calls to strangers. But were they surprised!”

The training showed how to: qualify prospects, make impossible appointments, start building respect and trust from the first appointment, getting to real pains/needs and overcoming objections for desired actions.

The First Bank team met every 10 days in groups of 12 to report progress against their specific targets. While slow at first, calling activity grew and success was gradually achieved. Through coaching and confidence built on successful experiences, sales meetings progressed from a reluctance to report to lively dialogues between members, sharing helpful prospect insights with each other.

One member reported being devastated on her first call, to the point of tears. Executive Vice President Jack Vaughn reported this prospect had also called him to complain, only to contact him later, inviting him to attend a competitor’s bank sponsored business owners meeting. ”Wonders never cease to amaze me, Jack said. I didn’t think we would ever get any where with this prospect and then she did a complete turnaround.”

At the end of the 120 days First Bank captured several new customers, representing over $300,000 in new income to the bank’s bottom line. Less the training expenses that gave a 30-to-1 ROI, income vs. expenses. Other contacts made during this period are expected to move to First Bank in a few months through continued follow-up activities.

A different success story comes from a bank holding company in Iowa. Bank Iowa Corporation felt it was time for a sales culture to be started within at each of its 6 independently chartered banks, serving 17 communities.

“We never had any sales training in our Company’s history, said Michael Thompson, VP and Program Leader. Our CEO, Stan Honken, challenged our presidents to have an officer calling program in place by year-end. I contacted some firms who might help us start a sales culture. After reviewing four, we selected Wemmers Consulting Group from Atlanta. Their program impressed us with its’ accountability factors, experience in bank training and real world application following the skills training.”

Bank Iowa’s Calling Teams intermingled Hunters and Farmers and all branch locations. Their program’s primary goal was to get Bank Iowa folks from behind their desks and out calling on prospects. Sales progress meetings were held every two weeks. A sales progress report, prepared by Amy Armitage, was updated and dispersed to all concerned.

“As Rick had alerted us, calling activity was slow at first but picked up as calling frustrations and excuses were addressed and resolved in the weekly meetings. “We all learned a lot about the process of business development. This will be quite helpful as we continue forward with this program,” Michael said.

It is estimated that Bank Iowa’s 60-day effort helped bring in some $13 million in new business or about $400,000 in new income. Subtracting the sales program expenses this resulted in a 23% ROI.

Most marketing firms do a lot of direct marketing. One might even suggest it's traditionally the bread and butter of a marketing firm's income. However, in order to properly manage a direct marketing campaign your firm will need to have adequate direct marketing support services, including lettershop services. These support elements will do the grunt work in your direct marketing campaign.

Direct marketing support services many involve such things as printing, mailings database management, and campaign management. While lettershop services handle issues tied to the distribution of your direct marketing campaign. This includes many mundane tasks such as labeling, presorting, folding, tracking and so on. However, as mundane as these tasks may be they are critical to the completion of a successful direct marketing campaign.
In most direct marketing campaigns, direct marketing support services, and lettershop services are handled by an outside vendor. As with the selection of any outside vendor, we suggest you do your research. But there's a problem with this. Obviously, competitive marketing firms may be loathing giving you any information about the companies they use for direct marketing support services, and lettershop services. But we have found a way around that one, and it may sound silly but it actually works.

Call your congressman.
Stop laughing. We are serious.
Why, you may ask, we are not trying to get a bill passed? We are just looking for some good vendors for direct marketing support services and lettershop services, how could our congressmen help with that? Well, it is quite simple, political candidate do a lot of direct mailings, and they usually use local companies. Also, you are a small business in your congressman's district; he will have a reason to help you.

Okay, so now you have found a good company to handing your direct marketing support services and lettershop services. Are there any other pitfalls? Of course there are. As with many other outside vendors, those dealing with direct marketing support services and lettershop services make money on volume. Meaning that quality control, though a priority, may not be their top priority. So you need to be especially carefully that all printed material, databases and instructions are given both verbally and in writing.

In our experience, if you have never worked with the vendor, we suggest you do this in person. Although thanks to digital printing a lot may be done via phone, FTP and email, we still feel that these initial contacts should be done in person. And do not give this job to a new hire or an intern. That is just asking for trouble. This needs to be done by someone who has been at your firm for at least a year. Someone who can think on his or her feet.

Another important thing about vendors who offer direct marketing supports services and lettershop services is that they see direct marketing campaigns every day. They have a sense of what works and what does not. If they question some aspect of your campaign, listen to them. They probably know what they are talking about. And, as you and vendor build trust; you may find them giving you pointers that they only share with valued customers. We might add that the referral from you congressman, might also help grease the early client vendor relations. And you thought that was a crazy suggestion, right?

Financial Printing Services: Why you need to Hire an Experienced Agent

When you are dealing with time sensitive and highly confidential or otherwise sensitive materials, it is important to find and use a company that you trust to take care of the printing of these documents for you. Financial printing services are a vital service to any company, but it takes a business that you trust to really be able to work well with your own business. The security of your documents is of the utmost importance, and a good financial printing service will always treat your private documents with the utmost care.

Your financial printing services company should be able to help you with all of your financial printing needs without compromising the security of your most vital documents. A trusted financial printing service can print your annual and quarterly financial reports, your billing statements, and your stock certificates. They should be able to print important financial forms, prospectuses, business forms, and checks for your company, possibly including paychecks.

A good financial printing services company can also help you print things like envelopes and stationary, that might require less security but just as much attention to detail. You should also be able to get your EDGAR filing services printed by your printing agent, ensuring that your documents are in the proper form to be filed by your company in addition to having the paperwork in the correct form for filing.

You can potentially print all of these things yourself, however if you are planning on creating your own financial documents, then you will need a skilled operator to create them as well as the right equipment for the printing process. If you are creating checks, then you will want some sort of special watermark or other security method, and the same goes for certain other secure documents.

Instead of trying to recreate these methods, which are designed to be difficult to counterfeit anyway, it is more economically sound to outsource this printing to a company that works with financial printing on a regular basis and can guarantee you the work that you need done in a timely and secure fashion. This will help you to save the money on an attempt to create such documents in-house, and as long as the security measures of the financial printing services company is good, you have nothing to worry about in terms of the safekeeping of your vital documents.

Being able to offer your customers as many payment options as possible can make your business grow in a huge way. By giving them the ability to pay for merchandise with their credit cards, especially if you are an online business owner, you give them an ease and flexibility of shopping that will have them returning time and again to make purchases from you. And with the popularity of online shopping higher than it has ever been, the demands to make your business better are just as great. The vast majority of shoppers prefer to pay for their orders with credit cards, so it makes good business sense that you would offer that option to them. By opening a merchant account with one of the many merchant services available to business owners, your customers will enjoy the simplicity and speed of paying by credit card, and you will see your profits soar.

Merchant service firms provide merchant accounts to business owners. A merchant account allows a business to accept credit cards as a form of payment from customers. A merchant account is not the same as a bank account. Rather, a merchant service works to make sure the credit card is verified and that the funds are transferred from the customer you're your business bank account. It used to be that merchant services were only available through banks and providers to retail establishments that were located in a physical location, like a mall. But the demands of online shopping have caused many merchant account providers to begin to provide merchant services to online business owners. There are many online merchant account providers that offer reliable and secure services particularly to merchants that sell their products on the Internet. Because there are so many merchant service providers available, it is important to be familiar with all characteristics of merchant services, especially the potentially high costs, so that you don't lose your profits. It is also important to find a merchant account provider that is dependable, trustworthy, and offers secure services for you and your customers.

If you open a merchant account for your online business, the type of payment processing usually offered by a merchant account service is real-time processing. Real-time processing is the best solution for online business owners since the charge from the customer's credit card is promptly processed when an order is placed. The customer receives an email notification that the order has been processed and the fund transfer is approved by the credit card company, upon verification and approval of the credit card. You will see the profits from the sale in your bank account within a few days.

The potential fees put upon you for merchant services can be numerous. Since not all of the fees are necessary, and not all merchant service providers change them, check around with different providers until you find one with reasonable fees and monthly charges. Some of these fees include an application fee, a monthly statement fee, a discount rate and transaction fee (these are deducted with each and every sale you make), an annual fee, and a refund fee. There are also other miscellaneous fees that individual merchant service providers might charge you. There are many potential costs associated with opening an account with a merchant service provider. Try to compare services before you make a decision. It's also a good idea to try to estimate the monthly costs by using your current sales figures to project expenses.

Your relationship with your merchant service provider should last the duration of your business, if possible. You should trust your provider implicitly. Your merchant service provider should offer quick and secure processing of your credit card sales, and they should offer additional services to offer your customers even more payment options. Not only should they accept several types of credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, among others), but they should also provide your customers with added payment alternatives, like PayPal. Your merchant service provider should have a good reputation for having excellent service and reliability, as well as having a name for excellent customer relations. They should be equipped to deal with any issues or problems discreetly and quickly. The merchant services provider you choose to make a relationship with can make or break your business between its fees and service. Make sure you know the facts about merchant services and the providers so that you don't lose your dream of being a successful business owner.

Credit card services

In simple words, by credit card services we mean the ability to accept credit cards as a mode of payment. Well, we can also term the use of credit cards as a credit card service. However, generally, credit card services will include the services that enable acceptance of credit card by a merchant. So, for a shopkeeper, use of credit card processing machines to accept credit card payments, is a credit card service that he is providing to his customers (and he himself is receiving this credit card service from the provider of credit card processing machine and others involved in making this process so smooth). Since carrying cash is no more a common practice, any shop that doesn’t use/provide such credit card services would end up losing a lot of customers because customers can’t pay with anything other than a credit card. So, for most merchants, providing credit card services (or credit card processing services) to their customers, has become very essential part of business.

With the internet boom, came a lot of online businesses. These businesses were in the form of virtual shops (or e-shops) that existed either only on the internet or were a virtual extension of physical shops. All these businesses (some selling goods, some selling services), needed a way to accept payments from their customers. This gave birth to online credit card services. The simplest use of these online credit card services is in the form of a simple webpage/web-form that asks you to provide your credit card details. These details are then verified and processed to debit the amount from your credit card and credit it to the merchant’s accounts. Since credit card details are sensitive information, these websites started implementing mechanisms/technology to secure it and prevent it from getting in the hands of fraudsters. Such sites are now called secured websites and form the backbone of e-commerce.

Besides these basic ways of implementing credit card services, the credit card services are provided in some other forms too e.g. over-the-phone payments using credit cards, use of third party online credit card service providers who provide you with an interface to accept credit card payments.

So, there are a lot of different ways in which credit card services are implemented and as the time goes by, the expanse of these credit card services is sure to increase.

Financial services sector touches the lives of everyone in the country, contributing over 5% of the UK's gross domestic product and employing over 1 million people. The UK is home to thousands of financial services firms, many of them from overseas, and home of the largest financial markets in the world. So it will come as no surprise that jobs in the financial services sector are being filled faster than at any time since 2000.

Financial services is an umbrella category that can encompass a variety of services, including securities dealers and brokers, investment management and mutual fund firms, insurance companies, credit card companies, and investment and commercial banks.

Financial services have moved in many cases from the centre of London to the suburbs, where property rent and office rent is lower. Estate agents and office builders have seen an increase in work in areas like Highgate Hook and Ilford. Small firms like insurance brokers, claims specialists and tax advisors have tended to move from areas like Kennington or Kensington to Richmond or Hammersmith. Finance jobs still dominate in the city for banking jobs and investment, accountancy and book keeping or accounts staff, but for smaller companies specialising in financial services such as house insurance or private tax consultants the suburbs are becoming more popular.

The Blomfield Group latest research said it now takes 12 weeks to fill a vacancy, from date of advertising to the date of the employee starting.

Salaries increased by more than 10% in just one month, they have risen from €33,310 in February this year to €36,692 in March so no wonder jobs in Dublin’s financial services sector are filling at their fastest rate in five years. Permanent salaries are following a strong upward trend in Dublin more than in London Edinburgh or Glasgow.

In the London market average salaries have risen by 3.5% over the month to £36,146, while in Scotland the increase is of 6.5%, to £21,678.

Paul Cotter, the Managing director of Blomfied’s Dublin office, said: “Jobs are now filling significantly more quickly than they were one, three or five years ago, reflecting the new surge of confidence in the market.”

The financial services jobs markets in London, Edinburgh and Glasgow are seeing a similar trend. In London it takes 8.6 weeks, compared with more than 15 weeks in 2004.

In Scotland, it is taking on average 9.7 weeks to fill a job, compared with 14.3 weeks in 2001.

Have You Thought About Selling Services

It's not widely known that it's possible to sell services on eBay, in fact there's a large category devoted to it, called ‘Speciality Services'. To give you an idea of some of the possibilities, some of the main sub-categories include:

Advice & Instruction

Artistic

Custom Clothing and Jewelry

Auction Services

Graphic & Logo design

Media editing and duplication

Printing

Restoration and repair

Web and Computer services

As you can see, there's quite a range on offer, and bear in mind that there are specific niches even within each of these main sub-categories. For example, within the ‘eBay auction services' category, there's more categories such as appraisal, listing services, packing and shipping, and shopping assistance.

I bet that either you can provide a service that falls under one of these categories, or you know of someone else whose services you could promote (and take a commission).

I would suggest that your first step is to browse these categories and see what people are offering. You'll soon see which topics are swamped with sellers thrashing each other on price, whereas others will have gaps in the market waiting to be filled by you.

Let's suppose that you have a friend that happens to be an expert at camera repair, yet in the local area his store has been struggling to find enough work.

A quick check in the ‘camera & photo' category of ‘restoration and repair' reveals just 6 listings, and only one seller seems to be a regular in that category, AND they are charging what seems to be a decent amount for the service. I would say that this represents a tremendous opportunity for someone else to come into that niche and provide a quality service.

That's just one example of how you can offer a service to a HUGE audience, easily and cheaply. I'm amazed that more sellers aren't doing this, services are such an untapped market right now on eBay.

Continuing with the camera repair example, imagine if the business owner produced some ‘camera repair' DVD training guides - simple instructions on easy maintenance tasks from an ‘insider expert', and then offered those DVD's for sale as a backend product.

They would sell loads of them, especially because the customer had recently experienced the pain of having a broken camera! It's the perfect tie-in product because the customer would no doubt want to do anything to prevent a reoccurrence, by means of preventative maintenance.

When marketing legal services, generalities fail and specifics persuade. The same is true when you decide which legal services you wish to feature in your attorney marketing program.

When you practice in various areas of the law, your prospects and referral sources see you as a generalist. Often, they don't remember you for any particular area of practice. In their minds, your image is blurred.

On the other hand, when you practice in one narrow area of the law, your prospects and referral sources know exactly what you do. Your image is clear and precise. So even if you want to practice in a broad area, or offer a wide range of services, you'd do well to define your niche in narrow terms so prospects and referral sources see you in one specific niche.

The more narrow your niche, the easier it is to establish yourself as the authority in that niche and for people to perceive you as the expert. Also, the easier it is for clients, prospects and referral sources to remember exactly what you do.

The more narrow your niche -- and the more effective your marketing program -- the more your law practice will soar. It's no exaggeration to say that when you focus on one narrow niche, the sky's the limit.

So, how do you "specialize" when you're good at many things -- and when you may want to do many things?

Simple.

When I started in marketing, (a long time back), I was overwhelmed with all the skills I needed to learn. I thought no one person could possibly know how to write powerful ads, generate publicity, design seminars, create newsletters -- and do it all well.

Now, 30 years later, I see the bigger picture -- realize that basic principles apply across the board -- and view marketing much differently from the way I viewed it 3 decades ago. Today, I know how one person can understand how to create a powerful marketing message -- and then deliver that message using a number of different methods.

So today, I use a wide range of tools, including advertising, publicity, seminars, newsletters, tapes, web sites, and more. Yet these many tools all fall under the one umbrella of Education-Based Marketing.

Here's how you can create and profit from your own unique niche:

Step #1: Determine the areas of law in which you want to practice. Do you want to practice family law? Estate planning? Commercial transactions?

Step #2: Determine the types of clients you want to serve. Do you want to work with affluent consumers? Business owners? Doctors? Or all clients who need specific types of services?

You can approach your law practice either from the service point of view, meaning the services you want to provide. Or the client point of view, meaning the clients you want to serve. Or a combination of both, providing these types of services to those types of clients. Then write down your clients/services statement, so you can see clearly -- in writing -- exactly who you want to serve and what you want to do for them. Next:

Step #3: Create a new playing field. One problem lawyers have is that they practice in areas of law that are nearly identical from one lawyer to the next, and from one law firm to the next. If you want a personal injury lawyer -- an estate planning lawyer -- or a divorce lawyer -- you can probably find a dozen up and down your city block.

True, the generic label helps prospects identify the type of lawyer they need. But the generic label also reinforces the perception that all lawyers in a specific field are the same -- just because they all share the same label.

Don't accept the playing field defined by the marketplace, tradition or other lawyers. Create your own niche. Rise to a new level. After all, if you're investing money and time in marketing, you have every reason to re-define the playing field so it benefits you.

Step #4: Name your niche or area of specialization using fact-oriented, descriptive words. The old marketing adage is that people buy benefits and not features. Even so, when naming your niche, don t use a benefit title because it says nothing and arouses suspicion. When I named education-based marketing, I wanted a term that clearly describes what I do. I could have called it Power Marketing, Marketing That Works!, Brilliant Marketing -- or some other ridiculous combination of meaningless words. But, instead, I wanted a term that accurately described my marketing process in terms my prospects could relate to and understand. Hence, education-based marketing.

Name your niche so it describes what you do as factually and accurately as possible. At the same time, make sure your new name covers all the services you want to provide. If you use a narrow name, often prospects will think you provide only those services, not realizing you can and want to provide services outside that narrow area as well. So you want a niche name that creates the impression of a narrow focus, yet is broad enough to include everything you want under that umbrella.

Step #5: Market like crazy. From a competitive point of view, a new niche is worthless if your prospects don t know it, understand it and see it as a major competitive advantage. You could be the only lawyer in that niche -- and the only lawyer using the term -- but no one will care if your prospects don't see why they should hire you instead of your competitors. As a result, your new niche should become a key part of your marketing message. Then you need to educate prospects about why a lawyer in your niche -- who provides the services you offer -- is exactly the lawyer your prospects need.

Step #6: Reflect your new niche in all your marketing materials. If you create a powerful niche -- and believe in it -- then shout it from the mountaintops. All of your brochures, seminar materials, advertising, publicity and web sites should reinforce the existence and importance of your niche. The more traction your niche develops, the more validity prospects attach to it. The more prospects and competitors talk about it. The more real is becomes. Soon, prospects see it as a genuine niche, as opposed to a term you made up after a little wine. At that point, the niche you created moves from perception to reality, which, for marketing purposes, is the same.

SUMMARY: In a marketing sense, you should focus on one area of law. You're in the strongest competitive position when you create your own narrow niche. Make sure your niche is broad enough to include all the services you want to provide -- yet narrow enough so your prospects perceive you as an authority in that area.

IMPORTANT: Take your time and make these decisions carefully. Create different terms for your niche and ask clients and friends for their reaction. See which niche names do and don't appeal to them. See if they have an idea what the niche name means. The name you attach to your niche will likely determine its success or failure. So make this decision slowly, carefully, wisely.

I first wrote the term education-based marketing in 1984. Today, 22 years later, I still use it because (1) it describes exactly what I do, (2) it's the only marketing method I use, and (3) my prospects hire me to provide those services. That's the test of a good niche.

Now develop one for yourself so when marketing legal services, you gain a significant advantage over your competitors who also strive for attorney marketing success.

Computer Consulting Services: Selling the Network as Security and Data Protection

Computer Consulting Services are a security blanket for companies. Businesses will be able to control which employees have what access to files which are protected from a server designed by computer consulting services.

Article Body:

Small business prospects and clients may view your computer consulting services as part of their insurance policy. You write up a service agreement that lists what’s covered and what’s not, as well as various parameters for coverage. Then each month, quarter, or year you collect some kind of retainer deposit, similar to an insurance premium.

Play Up the Value of your Computer Consulting Services

Part of the reason small business owners never miss a premium is because they want to make sure that your firm will be there in their time of need. So effectively, one of the reasons small businesses hire your firm is for "security". Rather than go kicking and screaming trying to vehemently deny this, play up the value of your computer consulting services and add security and data protection into your sales pitch - as major parts of your clients’ network investments.

Superior Security Foundation

Be sure to weave some of the following security and data protection points into your computer consulting services sales presentations. In sharp contrast to a client/server network like the one you’re proposing, a peer-to-peer "server" generally isn’t capable of maintaining its own user account security database.

As a result, a standalone peer-to-peer network is limited to "share-level" access control. This means everyone that connects to this peer-to-peer "server" share point has the same user name and password. There’s no way to differentiate between access levels of users and no way to terminate an individual’s password when he or she leaves the company.

Highlight Your Computer Consulting Services

A dedicated server OS, on the other hand, provides much better control over who has access to which shared resources. Each person can be assigned his or her own user name and password. Be sure to highlight how your proposed networking solution takes this into account.

Security with your proposed networking solution is also more flexible or granular. With most peer-to-peer "servers", security can only be controlled at the share level. When a share point is set up on a dedicated server with a true NOS security can be controlled all the way down to the file level.

The Bottom Line about Computer Consulting Services

Consider adapting this file cabinet analogy for your client presentations: Would you rather grant employees unrestricted access to an entire room full of file cabinets, or just a few select hanging folders in certain file drawers which are pertinent to their job?

Did you know that credit card merchant account services could possibly multiply your sales receipts within a matter of weeks or months? Of course, other factors will play a role in the overall success of this strategy, but many company owners claim that the simple step of accepting credit card payments increased their income dramatically in a relatively short amount of time. That is why you need to know more about the benefits of credit card merchant services.

Basically, the premise of using credit card merchant account services works like this. You find a trusted lender with experience in merchant accounts. You might even want to check with customers at some of the lending institutions to see if they are satisfied with their merchant account services. You also can find online testimonials, although these may be biased when situated at the Websites of various lenders. You could visit chat rooms devoted to topics like this one that are sure to be discussed among entrepreneurs or start-up business owners. After getting objective feedback on several possible lenders, you can choose the one that seems like the best bet for your company.

It is a simple process to apply for credit card merchant account services. After reducing your possible underwriters to three or four after searching the Internet or checking with colleagues, it then becomes a matter of comparing and contrasting benefits with fees. Some companies are so well known that they can afford to charge more for their merchant account services. Others have recently added this option, so they might reduce, avoid, or omit certain fees in order to get your business. However, you may have to pay these fees after the first year or another type of trial period. Read all the terms carefully so that you understand how the account works, how much it costs, and what the potential glitches might be. Contact the lender with any questions or uncertainties before applying for an account. Then, when approved, you should feel confident that you have made a good investment.

Obtaining credit card merchant account services will let you accept credit card payments from your customers in a variety of ways. If you own or operate a store, for example, they can pay onsite with a credit card processor that you can plug into a wall outlet. But if you deliver goods or services to homes or businesses, you may want to take along a wireless credit card processor. Depending on how your customers like to pay and the level of involvement you want to pursue, you can add a pager and an e-check or debit processor right away or later on, depending on equipment cost and your need.

Being approved for a merchant services account will help you expand the way you do business. Many consumers prefer to pay by credit card, so accepting payments via this method will attract that segment of buyers and increase your volume of sales. Soon your profit margins should increase as well. Start thinking now about adding credit card merchant account services to your business.

Most marketing firms do a lot of direct marketing. One might even suggest it’s traditionally the bread and butter of a marketing firm’s income.

But there’s a problem with this. Obviously, competitive marketing firms may be loathe to give you any information about the companies they use for direct marketing support services, and lettershop services.

Also, you are a small business in your congressman’s district; he will have a reason to help you.

Getting Your Services Used

Every day I talk with professional service providers who do great work, have a valuable service that really helps people…and struggle to get their services used as much as they’d like.

They get a lukewarm response after an initial conversation while networking, the referrals come in but don’t convert to real business as often as they’d like, and they can’t seem to get prospects to see them as that much better than other professionals offering similar services.

Article Body:

Or they may get some attention from prospects as a result of an ad, published article, or speech…but then the early attention kind of fizzles into phone tag and no real client, in the end.

So what’s the problem? In most cases, they’re not getting far enough with the prospect to reveal the quality of their work…so it’s not about their professional work. And some professionals DO have decent positioning and credibility-building things in place like client testimonials and case studies on their websites (although the latter -- done effectively – is rare, unfortunately).

There are a lot of things that can go wrong in the marketing and sales process. But in most cases, the key thing I see missing is a decent approach to packaging your professional services. Part of successfully packaging your services means putting what you offer into a variety of formats and "packages" that your clients need, at prices they’ll pay.

Networking and asking for referrals are a waste of time (or are a lot harder), if you don’t have something for prospects to easily buy…a choice of easy "yes's" in the form of thoughtfully packaged versions of your services.

Real Life Examples that Work

Here are some examples to illustrate what I mean. These are simple ways to repackage what typically is only offered as consulting services (whatever your specialty may be). Each format offers your clients a different level of commitment, time, and money…increasing the chances that you’ll find the right fit for their needs:

* Weekly Coaching to Get & Stay On Track: Good for prospects who hesitate to take that first step or just need a little encouragement to start small. Great for people who need the structure and discipline of a regular meeting (telephone or in person) to keep on track.

* Multi-Hour Strategy Session: Particularly useful if you sell to other businesses. A quick, affordable way for prospects to get specific feedback and new ideas on their existing approach to what you offer.

* 1-Day Jump-Start Retreat: A more in-depth version of the idea above. Especially useful if you bring a management team together.

* Multiple-Day or Monthly Workshop or Clinic: A different way to impart your expertise and help your clients "learn to fish for themselves."

* Quick Audit: An affordable, finite commitment to let a prospect get a small sample of your approach. Can often develop into a longer engagement.

* Strategy + Action Planning: A safe way for prospects to get real value, without buying the whole nine yards. Again, this is a finite engagement that produces a blueprint for future work.

* Implementation Services: This is typically the primary service professional service firms offer. To make this more "buyable," break it into phases and smaller, incremental commitments.

* The Round Table: Collaborate with trusted peers to provide a multi-faceted approach to helping your clients.

How do I know that these approaches motivate prospects to become clients? Because I use all of them in my practice and they all get results. My business model represents a mix of revenue streams, none of which is tied completely to a traditional consulting model.

For more tips on how to get your services used by offering options through creative packaging, keep reading...

Give your prospects choices and you’ll increase the odds they more quickly turn into paying clients. Here’s how:

1. Package your services to offer clients have a variety of ways they can work with you. Think small, then incrementally add steps in larger sizes. Before you know it, you’ll have a range of ways to help your clients.

2. Give each service a catchy title that’s all about how your client will benefit. For example, I offer the "More Clients Than You Ever Thought Possible!" Marketing Clinic and the "Maximize Your Online Strategy" Website Audit. Make the title about your clients, not you.

3. "Productize" your services to generate passive income. Record your public talks and sell them as tapes on your website. Combine sets of articles and sell them as mini-books. These are fairly easy, low-cost things to do.

4. Go back to current and past clients with your new range of services and/or product-based solutions. Just because they bought one type of service from you in the past, doesn’t mean they wouldn’t be interested in new ways you can help them.

5. Make sure your pricing structure offers prospects a range of choices. Make it easy for them to take the first step by offering something small and relatively inexpensive. There's a lot that can be said about pricing, which I'll cover in a future issue of this newsletter.

6. Don't be afraid to spell out your range of services in your marketing materials and on your website. Demystify what you do by offering lots of information, including details of what your clients can expect in terms of deliverables, timeframes, targeted results, and what they need to do to ensure success.

7. The bottom line is to use client-centered descriptions and language. Even though this is about your services, it's not. It's about how your clients will succeed and what problems they'll solve by choosing a particular service. I just can't emphasize this enough!

Experiment with a number of packages and see what works and what doesn't. Play with the variables: title, size, price, description, deliverables, and so on. You've got nothing to lose, but future clients.

And some are printed in four colors while others are made using embedding or imprint technology. The purpose is to be unique and different, and make a lasting impression.

Depending on your thoughts, budget, design, and needs, a business card service will tell you what kind of printing your card will need. They offer die-cut business cards, embossed cards, CMYK full color printing, bi-fold business cards, or thermograph print cards—different processes that produce varied results.

Most business card printing services will provide in-house design services if you let them have all the information you need on the card. Otherwise, you could design your business card yourself by using the online card design services. Print providers like GreatFX business cards offer a complete online design studio with which you can create a business card in minutes, using your web browser.

Printers today are innovative. They club together to offer online business card printing services which offers a free estimate if you fill in a questionnaire. The questionnaire will go to different card printers, and the ones who can do the job will get in touch with you. There are other online sites where clients can post projects for which printers can place bids—the same concept like elance or guru.com.

For a world-class product you need to ensure that you scan logos and other images in eps or bmp format. Specify how many cards you need, what kind of paper, black and white or color, whether it should be coated, whether you need a proof, and when you need the cards delivered.

Be wise and do your homework well. Contact at least three business card printing services. Comparison shopping is good business sense, not a waste of time. Check the reliability of the printers. Find out if anyone you know has used the service. Read up on design and how one can use a template to design a professional-looking, unique card. Seek the help of a computer-savvy friend or colleague, and find out if designing your own card is as easy as it sounds.

Your business card represents you—it is your brand ambassador, so think before you leap. When it doubt, just choose a classy style instead of shiny brass or psychedelic varieties.
